25 Lessons I Have Learned
41. Go Back!

How many times have you blown off taking a great photo simply because your mind only realized it was a good photo-op after you had just passed it? One too many, I’m sure. I’m sure, because I have erred that way, the wrong way, many times.

But I’ve learned. For now I know that I can step back. It rarely requires anything but a little bit of effort.

So, next time, make an effort and step back to snap it, because moments like this are eternally ephemeral (forever gone, once they’re gone) and shall never fruition again. So why lose it to your mind’s misstep? For progress is not always on a forward trajectory. Even though we’re often taught to believe that a better future lies ahead, sometimes it really lies right behind us.

Think of it this way....how many times have you intuitively felt a stranger's alluring glance, one which entranced you enough to wonder "what if...?" Most of us never step back because we are afraid of rejection...In reality, what do you really have to lose?...A lot if you don't at least try. So be it love or an amazing photo, don't let fate ellude you. Because as Maya Angelou put it, "Life loves to be taken by the lapel and told: 'I'm with you kid. Let's go.'"
