Autumn leaves are amazing.
They can run along windswept streets,
fly, fluttering as if in a butterfly ballet
play upon the whims of change
rearrange light streaming through the trees
change color with the harbinger breeze,
complement a collage
adorn the Avenue, line the rue
in deep blankets of brown
sing a bristling siren song to you,
alluring you to get the hell out of town—
symbolize escape, being the antithesis
to the toll the concrete City takes.
crumple beneath my feet
and not complain,
entertain children endlessly
and in the end, become the fodder
for other leaves to grow.
