the lost man chronicles
15. sunny

A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition.
The pessimist complains about the wind;
The optimist expects it to change;
The realist adjusts the sails.
~ William Arthur Ward

i think the new governor of Kalifornia should push for legislation which subsidizes the export of (human) sunshine from his state. you know, spread those good vibrations, and give us ex-pats serving as diplomats abroad, something to smile about.

this evening i spoke with my dear sister out in tinsel town. she started out by saying she's under some stress. i replied jocularly, "hey, look who you're talking to," bobbing my head back and forth as if i were back in Brooklyn. I Presley-snarled with a perky lop-sided lip, "I'm The King of stress lil' sister. I understand it’s a little overcast over there, 'cold' even, but so what? What? you've gone below sixty maybe? Well, while you were running around in your skimpy gym clothes, your dear old brother was shoveling snow for a few hours. So, count your blessings baby."

she laughed heartily in response and replied with a brighter tone, "Yeah, you're right. I feel better already. Thanks. Guess I called just the right person."

that's right. little sisters should always call their older brothers whenever in need of a little positive reassurance. we'll set you straight, sure enough.

after a dozen years here, i still proudly claim i'm originally from the west coast, if only to boast how positive i'm inclined to be. thus, little sister knows she can always call me, if only to remind her how lucky she is to be out there, there somewhere where 'cold' means putting on a sweat suit.

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain.
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain.
Oh, the dark days are done and the bright days are here,
my sunny one shines so sincere.
Oh, Sunny one so true, I love you.
