the lost man chronicles
book two: the art of love

the lost girl chronicles: love does create

"(Why is love immortal?)"
"Because Love creates something that wasn't there."
~ Hedwig and the Angry Inch, John Cameron Mitchell

such a simple truth,
yet so incompatible with the world and the way we are cajoled to live in it.

for love does create. alas, time takes away, sapping the joy,
and eventually substituting work for play.

the endearing nuances are also often overcome
by some of the outright demands of others which,
and who, override, and run over,
the original mirth shared between two lovers.

then, when we are pushed and prodded into saying "i do"
or "i will" —always love you—sadly, the party ends.

and life is over or rather begins, not anew, but awry,
off the track of true love and onto the trail long sighs,
of tiring excuses, of compromise and tired eyes,
of weary hearts and wary minds, and false starts…

and all those times with all those others
with whom we are bound to fall in love with— forever
for a day, if only, because to love but once, is enough to say —always,
i love you. for together, "we created something"
something that wasn't there before.

"I hope life treats you kind.
and I hope you have all you dream of.
and I'm wishing you joy and happiness.
But above all this—I'm wishing you love.

And I will always love you."

~ I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston
