the lost man chronicles
book two: the art of love

the lovers follies: a splittin' image of me

i've long known, and just further realized, that the elusive ideal other ought to be but a spitting image of me.

thus, i seek a woman with the following flaws—

rides passionately between the starlit draw of an archer and the curve of a desert sting

a first-born, who is often delusional, and believes she has wings.

someone who trusts herself more than anyone to make her happy.

can be sappy, but otherwise bears suffering with a self-deprecating smile.

does not hesitate to wile to her advantage, while others wait for fate to shine upon them.

accepts all her contradictions, caters to them, coddling each desire as if it were her only son.

likes to pretend she is an angel, as well as the devil instigating shameless fun.

pursues dreams despite the chagrin of others.

often has her druthers, and eats it all too.

only needs a man, when she wants to bring out the woman in her.

so, ideal-lover are you out there? (echo)

…i didn't think so.

"Haphaestus, with his instruments, came to a pair lying side by side and said to them, 'Do you desire to be wholly one; always day and night to be in one another's company? For if this is what you desire, I am ready to melt you into one and let you grow together, so that being two you shall become one ~ there is not a man of them who when he heard the proposal would deny or would not acknowledge that this meeting and melting into one another, this becoming one instead of two, was the very expression of his ancient need. And the reason is that human nature was originally one and we were a whole, and the desire and pursuit of the whole is called love."
~ Plato, Symposium
