the lost man chronicles
35. accidents of destiny

last night i heard someone attribute his success to "accidents of destiny." how philosophically romantic i thought. alas, after a little more thinking, i remembered accidents are not caused by destiny, but by either the inaction of the careless or those willing to risk error.

fate and fortune are for those who do not care enough to control what makes life worth living; to create what makes it all more meaningful, to make desire more than fleeting fantasy and wishes more than elusive prospects of truth.

hence, one only needs to wish for luck if they are unprepared. yes, accidents happen, and the circumstances which trigger them may ultimately may be out of an individual's hands, but how one reacts will ultimately determine the outcome (fate) for that person.
