Feynman, Ramanujan, Kepler, Einstein, Edison, Turner and countless others have all demonstrated that experience was ultimately much more valuable to erudition. One can only learn so much from studying the work of others, for we truly do not understand what we must do, what can be done until we attempt it ourselves.

So, don’t wait to take a class or buy the right book or find the right mentor, just go out there and start doing it yourself. You will learn what questions must be asked and what experiments must be tried, and along those paths you yourself will find the answers.
